EASTER AT RISE CHURCH!

Woman at the Well 5-Day Devotions Copy

DAILY DEVOTIONS
Ready to dig deeper into your faith? Our weekly 5-day devotionals are like a guided conversation with the sermon. We'll ask questions, share Bible verses, and help you uncover amazing things about God and yourself! There is a new set posted each Sunday after the service.

 Day 1: Be Real
Bible Verse: “The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” - John 4:17-18 (ESV)

Reflection: The woman was honest about her life, not hiding her past. Not only was she honest with Jesus, she was honest with herself. Being real with God means admitting our mess-ups too, and that requires honesty inside and out.

Reflective Questions:
What things do I have a hard time being honest with God about?
What's one way I can take a step towards greater honesty with God this week?

Prayer: God, please help me face the things about myself that bring me shame. Give me faith that you still love me and will help me grow.

Day 2: Engage Others
Bible Verse: “The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)” - John 4:9 (ESV)

Reflection: There are lots of reasons we don’t engage with others, from politics to preferred church to demographics. Despite the differences we see in each other, God made us all the same, and we all need God just as much as any other. We should break down walls of division and seek to introduce others to Jesus. Salvation is meant to be shared.

Reflective Questions:
Do I have any prejudice that stops me from fully engaging with others?
What's one way I can show kindness to someone I might normally overlook?

Prayer: God, please show me if I'm secretly judging others and holding too tightly to what I’ve been given. Help me love the way you do - everyone, no matter what.

Day 3: Seek More
Bible Verse: The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” - John 4:25 (ESV)

Reflection: The woman lived a sinful life and knew her people weren’t perfect. She also knew the Jews weren’t a perfect people. And the Jews weren’t the only ones who longed for God to come and restore health to brokenness: Even the Samaritans knew the Messiah would come to them. She looked forward to the Messiah speaking into her life so hope and joy could return.

Reflective Questions:
Where do I look for happiness in ways that don't really fulfill me? What truly makes me feel alive inside?
How can I seek more of God this week instead of the things I want instead?

Prayer: God, please fill me up! Help me want the things that you want for me.

Day 4: Respond
Bible Verse: “So the woman left her water jar and went away into town and said to the people,  ‘Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?’” John 4:28-29 (ESV)

When the woman realized who she was speaking to and what it meant for Him to come to her people, her normal routine lost all importance. She recognized that there were more important things to do, and she gladly (and immediately) embraced them. A real encounter with God will never leave you the same. God changes us so we can be part of changing the world.

Questions:
How is God asking me to change my priorities?
What's one small act of kindness or service I can do today?

Prayer: God, I repent of the times my heart has been hard against Your call. Soften my heart. Move me. Show me ways to serve and share your love.

Day 5: Good News for All
Scripture: Matthew 28:18-20

Reflection: The woman at the well was the outcast of outcasts—unwanted, unloved, and resigned to her life of sin. But Jesus offers everyone a chance to change, no matter what they've done. From sinner to saint, our job is to share that good news!

Reflective Questions:
Do I think anyone is a "lost cause"? How can I show them the love Jesus offers?
Who is one person I can talk to about my faith this week?

Prayer: God, make me brave to spread your message. Help me see everyone as someone you love deeply, and give me grace to see how to best show that love to the lost.
