Acts 15 Removing Barriers to Christ 5-Day Devotions
Ready to dig deeper into your faith? Our weekly 5-day devotionals are like a guided conversation with the sermon. We'll ask questions, share Bible verses, and help you uncover amazing things about God and yourself! There is a new set posted each Sunday after the service.
Monday: Recognizing Barriers
Reflective Thought: Just as the early church had to confront barriers to God's grace, we too may unknowingly place obstacles in our own path. But in Christ, we have the power to break down those barriers and experience His boundless love.
Scripture: Acts 15:1 (NIV): "Some men came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the believers: 'Unless you are circumcised, according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.'"
Questions:
- Are there any areas in my life where I'm placing unnecessary rules or expectations on myself or others in order to experience God's love?
- How can I surrender those burdens to Jesus and embrace the freedom He offers through His grace?
Prayer: Lord, help me to identify any self-imposed barriers that are hindering my experience of your grace. Free me from the need to earn your love and empower me to fully embrace the freedom you offer through Christ. Amen.
Tuesday: Peter's Revelation
Reflective Thought: Peter's revelation reminds us that God's grace isn't exclusive; it's not limited by our background, past mistakes, or current struggles. Through faith in Jesus, we are all made clean and welcomed into God's family.
Scripture: Acts 15:8-11 (NIV): "God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are."
Questions:
- Do I fully believe that God's grace is for me, regardless of my past or present circumstances?
- How can I rest in the assurance of His acceptance and love, even when I feel unworthy?
Prayer: Father, thank you for your unconditional love and acceptance. Help me to truly grasp the depth of your grace and to live in the freedom it offers. Remind me daily that I am your beloved child, no matter what. Amen.
Wednesday: Paul and Barnabas' Testimony
Reflective Thought: The testimonies of Paul and Barnabas show us that God's grace is transformative. It doesn't just forgive our sins; it empowers us to live lives that bring glory to Him and impact the world around us.
Scripture: Acts 15:12 (NIV): "The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them."
Questions:
- How has God's grace transformed my life?
- How can I use my experiences to encourage and uplift others who are seeking His grace?
Prayer: Lord, I am grateful for the way you have transformed my life through your grace. Empower me to be a light in the darkness, sharing your love and hope with those around me. Amen.
Thursday: The Role of the Law
Reflective Thought: While the law is important for guiding us, our relationship with Jesus is paramount. It's through Him that we experience true freedom and transformation, not through strict adherence to rules.
Scripture: Galatians 3:1-2 (NIV): "You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard?"
Questions:
- Am I focusing more on following rules or on cultivating a deeper relationship with Jesus?
- How can I allow the Holy Spirit to guide me into a life of obedience that flows from love, not obligation?
Prayer: Lord, help me to prioritize my relationship with you above all else. Lead me by your Spirit into a life of obedience that is motivated by love for you, not by fear of punishment. Amen.
Friday: Living Out the Invitation
Reflective Thought: As recipients of God's grace, we are called to extend that same grace to others. When we love one another unconditionally, we reflect Christ's love to the world and create a space where others can encounter Him.
Scripture: John 13:35 (NIV): "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."
Questions:
- How can I show Christ's love to those who are different from me, even when it's challenging?
- In what ways can I create a more welcoming and inclusive environment for others to experience God's love?
Prayer: Father, fill my heart with your love so that it overflows to others. Help me to see people through your eyes and to love them unconditionally, just as you love me. Amen.
