555 Devotional: Serving Like Royalty (Mark 10:41-45)
This week, we are reflecting on what it truly means to serve like Jesus. In a world that often celebrates power, status, and recognition, Jesus flips the script, showing us that greatness in God’s kingdom is found in humility and service. Our passage in Mark 10:41-45 reminds us that Jesus didn’t come to be served but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many. As His followers, we are called to do the same.
Each day in this devotional, you’ll spend 5 minutes reading scripture, 5 minutes reflecting and journaling, and 5 minutes in prayer. The goal is to cultivate a heart of humility and service by aligning our lives more closely with the example of Jesus. Let’s allow His Word to shape how we think, how we serve, and how we love others in our daily lives.
Day 1: The Wrong Attitude (Mark 10:41)
Scripture: Mark 10:41
Reflection:
When James and John asked for the highest positions of honor, their request stirred jealousy and competition among the other disciples. Their pursuit of greatness in the wrong way disrupted unity and created tension. This shows us that when our motivations are rooted in self-promotion or status, it negatively affects those around us. Take time today to reflect on any areas where pride or competition might be disrupting your relationships.
Journaling Prompt: Where do you struggle with pride or the desire for recognition? How has this impacted your relationships?
Prayer Prompts:
Day 2: Redefining Greatness (Mark 10:42-43)
Scripture: Mark 10:42-43
Reflection:
Jesus contrasts the world’s definition of greatness with the kingdom’s. In the world, rulers “lord it over” others, seeking power and control. But in God’s kingdom, greatness is redefined. It’s about humility, service, and lifting others up. Today, reflect on how Jesus is calling you to redefine what greatness looks like in your life.
Journaling Prompt: How has the world’s view of greatness influenced your life? What would it look like to pursue greatness through service and humility instead?
Prayer Prompts:
Day 3: The Call to Humility (Mark 10:43)
Scripture: Mark 10:43
Reflection:
Humility isn’t about losing yourself or thinking less of yourself—it’s about thinking of yourself less and focusing on serving others. Jesus calls His followers to become servants, not seeking titles but looking for ways to lift others up. Today, reflect on how you can embrace humility in your relationships and daily life.
Journaling Prompt: Where is God calling you to practice humility in your life right now? What relationships or situations need more humility from you?
Prayer Prompts:
Day 4: Following Jesus' Example of Service (Mark 10:44-45)
Scripture: Mark 10:44-45
Reflection:
Jesus, the Son of Man, didn’t come to be served, but to serve and give His life as a ransom for many. He is the ultimate example of selfless service. He didn’t just tell us to serve—He showed us by laying down His life. Reflect on how Jesus’ example of service challenges you to live differently.
Journaling Prompt: How can Jesus’ example of service shape your actions this week? In what ways can you lay down your own desires to serve others?

Day 5: Unity Through Service (Mark 10:41-45)
