Paul uses the imagery of being rooted and built up in Christ. Like a tree whose stability depends on the depth of its roots, our spiritual stability is deeply anchored in our ongoing faith in Christ.

But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
